Junior Golf Programs

The Greg Jones Golf Academy is second to none when it comes to offering an educational, fun, exciting and unforgettable junior lesson experience.  Our instructors are exceptional at teaching juniors to improve and excel, build confidence, and learn what they need to build a successful golf game.  We have a highly proven track record with junior golfers, being able to take them from their current level to any level they have the desire and talent to achieve.  Our program is rated one of the best in the country, offering excellent instruction along with one of the best practice programs in golf.  Parents consistently comment that they have seen vast improvements in both their child’s interest in the game and their skill in playing.

Junior Beginners: Introduction to Golf

Junior Beginners: Introduction to Golf is designed for golfers, ages 6 through 14, who are new or relatively new to the game and those with limited golf experience.   The focus of this program is to build a strong foundation that will form the basis of their future success in the game. 

  • Fundamentals of Grip, Aim, Stance, and Posture

  • Principles of the golf swing - how to make a proper impact; rhythm, timing, and tempo; direction control

  • Level 1, 2, and 3 swings

  • Fundamentals of putting - set-up, pace and stroke length

 

Held on four consecutive weeks, with one of hour of instruction each week.

Junior Beginners: Introduction to Short Game

Junior Beginners: Introduction to Short Game is designed for golfers, ages 6 through 14, who are new or relatively new to the game and those with limited golf experience.   The focus of this program is to introduce the concepts of the short game and begin to build a strong chipping, pitching and putting games.  Students will be assigned practice homework to complete each week.

  • Fundamentals of chipping, proper set-up, and club selection

  • Fundamentals of pitching, proper set-up, and club selection

  • When and why to choose between a pitch and chip shot

  • Level 2 and 3 swings, impact and timing of the swing, club face at impact

  • Taking pitching and chipping to the course

  • Fundamentals of putting, length of stroke, green reading, understanding pace

Held on four consecutive weeks, with one of hour of instruction each week.  Recommended that students complete Junior Beginners: Intro to Golf prior to enrollment.

Junior Beginners: Intro to Short, Mid & Long Approach Shots

Junior Beginners: Intro to Short, Mid and Long Approach Shots is designed for golfers, ages 6 through 14, who are new or relatively new to the game and those with limited golf experience.  This program will introduce the fundamentals of approach shots from 110+ yards and in.  Students will be assigned practice homework each week to complete.

  • Short approach shots from 25 - 60 yds

  • Mid approach shots from 60 - 110 yds

  • Long approach shots of 110+ yds

  • Club selection and distance control

  • Course management and coaching skills

 

Held on four consecutive weeks, with one of hour of instruction each week.  Recommended that students complete Junior Beginners: Intro to Golf and Junior Beginners: Intro to Short game prior to enrollment.

Junior Beginners: Introduction to Driver and Fairway Shots

The Junior Beginners: Driver and Fairway Shots is designed for golfers, ages 6 through 14, who are new or relatively new to the game and those with limited golf experience.  In this program, we introduce the driver, fairway woods, and hybrid clubs.  Students will be assigned practice homework to complete each week.

  • Proper basics and set-up, including weight and balance and key swing thoughts

  • Driver swing, including practice drills to improve the driver

  • Fairway woods set-up, how to achieve solid impact, and choosing the correct loft for the shot

  • Hybrids set-up, long approach swing

  • Good personal coaching and shot choices

 

Held on four consecutive weeks, with one of hour of instruction each week.  Recommended that students complete Junior Beginners: Intro to Golf and Junior Beginners: Intro to Short game, and Junior Beginners: Intro to Short, Mid & Long Approach Shots prior to enrollment.

Junior Intermediate: Get on Track

Our Junior Intermediate Programs are designed specifically for intermediate golfers, ages 9 through 14, who can readily demonstrate proper fundamental skills (Grip, aim, stance, posture, set-up, and Level 1-4 swings), but need to improve their ability to consistently and effectively execute a shot.  

 

The Junior Intermediate: Get On Track Program is a four-week refresher course to review and reinforce the fundamentals that form the foundation of the golf swing.  

  • Basic Fundamentals of Grip, Aim, Stance, and Posture, Ball Position and Alignment

  • Principles of the golf swing - how to make a proper impact; rhythm, timing, and tempo; direction control; weight and balance

  • Level 1, 2, and 3 swings - how to take the club back properly and position the follow-though

  • Fundamentals of putting - set-up, understanding pace, length of stroke, and distance control

Held on four consecutive weeks, with one of hour of instruction each week.  

Junior Intermediate: Short Game

Junior Intermediate: Driver and Fairway Shots

Our Junior Intermediate Programs are designed specifically for intermediate golfers, ages 9 through 14 who can readily demonstrate proper fundamental skills, but need to improve their ability to consistently and effectively execute a shot.

Junior intermediate: Driver and Fairway Shots is a four-week program where we we will continue to refine driver and fairway shots and introduce speed training to increase club head speed.  Students will be assigned practice homework to complete each week.

  • Developing direction control and proper techniques, including direction control drills

  • Speed training and drills to increase club heed speed

  • Fairway woods set-up, how to eliminate topping and fatting shots, and choosing the correct loft wood for the shot

  • Hybrids set-up, long approach swing

  • Good personal coaching and shot choices

  • Developing a good game plan, understanding limitations and choices

The Academy Junior League and The Academy Junior Golf Tour

2022 Dates

Academy Junior League held on first 3 Tuesdays in June (June 7, 14, and 21), and first 3 Tuesdays in July (July 5, 12, and 19)

Academy Junior Golf Tour events held June 28 and July 26.

The Academy Junior League is a fun, competitive league open to junior golfers (boys and girls) of all abilities in Grades 6-12.  The league will be held on the first four Tuesdays in June and the first three Tuesdays in July at Bunker Hill Golf Course.  Players will be divided into three divisions based on ability.  A point system used for scoring will be in place to ensure equitable competition.   

The Academy Junior Golf Tour is a tournament open to all golfers (boys and girls) in Grades 6-12.  Tournaments will be held on the last Tuesdays in June and July at Bunker Hill Golf Course.  Players will be separated in to three divisions (Par, Birdie, Eagle) based on scoring average.  Par Division will play 9-holes, while Birdie and Eagle Divisions will play 18 holes.  Scoring will be based on a point system to ensure equitable competition.

 

The Academy Junior Golf Tour is a separate event from the Academy Junior Golf League.  Participation in the league is not required to play in the tournaments.  Additionally, our league golfers are encouraged, but not required, to participate in the tournaments.

 

Junior High Travel Club Team

2022 Dates

Begins Monday, August 8, 2022

The Junior High Club Team program is an intensive learn-and-play program for junior high golfers who are committed to improving their games and playing competitive golf in high school.  This program will prepare our club team players to make the high school team and, hopefully, help them to step right into a varsity spot as freshmen.

 

Open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade golfers from any school district, with some exceptions for younger golfers with high skill levels.  All club team members will participate in matches, learning programs, and weekly practice rounds.  Additionally, the golfers will be given practice programs to complete on their own each week.  Club team members will play several home matches and have the opportunity to earn spots on our travel team to play against other club teams and schools. 

High School Club Team

2022 Dates

Begins Monday, August 8, 2022

The High School Club Team is an intensive learn-and-play program designed as an alternative for those golfers in Grade 9-12 who didn't make the high school team, but are committed to the continuing development of their games in order to be ready for next season's high school team tryouts.  This is a comprehensive program emphasizing the 3M's of the game: mechanics, mental, and course management.  

 

The High School Club Team is open to all 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade golfers, male and female, from any school district.  The team will meet twice a week with one session devoted to learning and the other to playing, including participating in intra-club matches.  The golfers also will be given practice programs to complete on their own each week.
